Peel your dried onions and cut into slices or whatever shape you prefer
Place a medium non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and add the butter
When the butter has melted, add the onions, bay leaves and salt and cook for about 20 minutes, until the onions are soft and have released their sweetness
When they are soft enough, add the sugar and wait for about 2 minutes, then add the balsamic vinegar with honey
Once the sauce has caramelised, remove from the heat and serve in a bowl or plate with a paper towel at the bottom
Extra Tip:
When making caramelised balsamic onions to accompany your meal, always keep the heat low. Don't stir often and give the food all the time it needs. Our aim is to soften the onions gradually rather than to fry them, so that they release all the right flavours and aromas! The ideal colour for our result is brown, not light blonde
Caramelised onions can be kept in the fridge for up to 7 days
