Caramelized onions with Balsamic
To enhance the flavour of our caramelised onions, we have added Messino Balsamic Vinegar with Honey. The acidity of the Messino balsamicο and the sweetness of the honey combine inperfect harmony to create Messino Balsamic Vinegar with Honey, which gives our dish a unique and special flavour! Finally, the addition of bay leaves gives our recipe an even more special and intense taste.
Ingredients
- 500 gr dried onions
- 60 gr butter
- 2 bay leaves
- 10 gr salt
- 50 gr sugar
- 50 gr Messino balsamic vinegar with honey
Instructions
- Peel your dried onions and cut into slices or whatever shape you prefer
- Place a medium non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and add the butter
- When the butter has melted, add the onions, bay leaves and salt and cook for about 20 minutes, until the onions are soft and have released their sweetness
- When they are soft enough, add the sugar and wait for about 2 minutes, then add the balsamic vinegar with honey
- Once the sauce has caramelised, remove from the heat and serve in a bowl or plate with a paper towel at the bottom
Extra Tip:
- When making caramelised balsamic onions to accompany your meal, always keep the heat low. Don't stir often and give the food all the time it needs. Our aim is to soften the onions gradually rather than to fry them, so that they release all the right flavours and aromas! The ideal colour for our result is brown, not light blonde
- Caramelised onions can be kept in the fridge for up to 7 days
